Wasabi for winners
Christmas is just around the corner and I’ve been wondering what it is like in other parts of the world. I am particularly curious about Christmas food, and so I need your help.
Here is a little competition to give you a chance to tell us all what Christmas food is like in your country. After this post, leave us a short comment telling us just a little about your favourite Christmas food. Keep it to a couple of sentences but make sure you tell us why you like it so much. Make sure you leave a valid email address so I can contact you if you win. People from any country are welcome to enter, but I would be particularly excited to see Asian countries represented.
The best entry will win a tube of Japanese wasabi , posted directly from me to you (not the one in the picture..I’ll head down to the shop and buy a new one). If there are plenty of entries I will have to think up a few more prizes to add to the competition as well.
Happy commenting and may the best commenter win

My mother makes an amazing ham, and while the recipe is simple (pack brown sugar onto the exterior and baste with Coca-Cola), nothing else tastes quite as much like the holiday season.
I guess that’s common for all good traditions, though… Things that remind you of home, and how things are supposed to be.

My favorite Christmas food is the Lasagna my husband makes. Ok I know it sounds weird. Yep we make a Lasagna for Christmas. My brother does not eat Ham or Turkey so a few years ago my husband made him a lasagna. Over the years the Lasagna has become a family tradition.

My favorite Christmas food is my MIL’s meal. She makes a big turkey with gravy, stuffing, pigeon peas & rice, steamed vegetables, a baked ham, and then she follows it up with a pumpkin pie from fresh pumpkin, and often one other pie (usually apple or key lime).
And now I’m starving just thinking about it.

I am a Canadian living in Germany with my Bulgarian husband. Our family has adopted the Bulgarian tradition of having feast of seven vegetarian dishes on Christmas Eve.
At the centre of the meal is “Bop” or dried white bean soup. It’s a funny choice for a Christmas Eve feast as it is the staple food for many rural Bulgarians, but that is the point. It is humble and filling and sustains one through the long winter months until spring and green return.
It is a metaphor for all that we believe Christmas represents.

My Favorite Chistmas food is a dessert my mother makes every year called “Neopolitan Surprise.” it has a nutty shortbread crust with layers of rich choolate mousse, sweetened cream cheese, and whipped cream on top. Adding food coloring to the layers makes it red, green, and brown. It may not always be pretty once it’s scopped onto a plate, but it is sweet and decadent and it cannot feel like Christmas without it!

I didn’t have any specific food for Xmas. However, being third generation Japanese the big holiday meal was New Years. We always had udon and oden which was a typical New Years at our house. Living in Japan for several years both as a US Sailor and civilian New Years always reminded me of home especially the food.
