Sushi Delivered to Your Home
Who woulda thunk? Once upon a time, you couldn’t order sushi online. How could you possibly? Sushi is supposed to be prepared and served absolutely fresh, preferably right in front of you.
There’s even a funny website some college guys created where you could order sushi to be delivered to your home. It was a spoof site, of course, but good for some laughs (warning: not a kid-friendly site). I keep wondering if people actually tried to order from them.
These days, there are companies doing this for real. Take Catalina Offshore Products, for example. From their website:
Catalina Offshore Products is a seafood wholesaler specializing in high quality fresh and frozen seafood from the West Coast and Baja California. If you’re one of those people who has to have your seafood fresh then you have come to the right place. Our fish is delivered daily within a few hours of being caught and kept on ice in our coolers until we ship it to you. We have very high standards for our fishermen and know that our customers rely on us to give them only the best. Seafood in stores is up to ten days old. That is why it tastes “fishy”. Our seafood is only two to three days old when it is shipped to you in refrigerated boxes overnight.
Wolfgang Puck and Jeffrey Steingarten like their sea urchins. My favorite ultra-passionate food critic David Rosengarten has also written about them. I haven’t placed an order yet, but I’ll be sure to let you know when I do!
Nikko Online Sushi Bar, on the other hand, is family-owned but can be considered a “chain within a chain” — they currently operate in 23 states. You can place your sushi order online and pick it up at the local Wild Oats store. A smart thing, if you ask me, since partnering means they can harness Wild Oats’ nationwide reach without having to put up their own stores/sushi bars.
In the Bay Area, Waiter.com offers free online food ordering, including sushi. The only catch? A $60 minimum order.
And if you’re in the UK, EatIn.LastMinute.com offers online ordering as well, from places such as Yo!Sushi and Feng Sushi.
Or, if you ever find yourself stuck late night at a hotel in the Greater Vancouver area in Canada, visit YummyWeb.com to request sushi delivery from one of their listed restaurants.

Hi Stef - If you live in the San Diego area, I give the highest recommendation possible to Catalina Offshore. I can’t say much about delivery; but I do place an order for “pick-up” when I need really good Maguro. They also have some of the best Uni anywhere.
