Ochazuke
Ochazuke is simply tea and rice. It is a warm soothing sort of meal or a quick snack to get you to dinner time. It can be made in different styles but last night we made it with salmon.
It is super easy. Just cook rice as you normally would. Drop about a cup or so of cooked rice into your bowl. Drown it with about a cup of hot green tea. Then add whatever else you like. We used grilled salmon, sesame and nori, but you could equally well use chicken, pork or just vegetables. What you use, depends on what is at hand as well as what you feel like. Sometimes salty fish tastes great, other times you might be looking for some mild green vegetables. The choice is yours
The flavour can be very mild and it is easy to eat, so a lot of elderly or sick people love this dish, but it is equally good if you are into simple food with only very healthy ingredients. Especially when it is cold, a dish like ochazuke can really warm up a chilled body, in fact I’m freezing so I think I’ll organise some now.

that sounds wonderful! So much better than boring american chicken noodle soup. I will have to make this next time I’m feeling cold (or have a cold!)
