New years soup

Now here is another dish that I am not sure about its name.  I think it is called Ozoni, but I would like confirmation of this.  It is a simple dish which, in this case, included chicken, grilled omochi, carrot, green veges, and chikuwa fish sausage served in a soup stock.  It tastes great, but I have no idea of it’s cultural symbolism.  I’d love your help if anyone has some more information.

I don’t know it’s significance either, but I know that it IS called Ozoni.

Ozoni is also referred to as just zoni. It may have started as a samurai food cooked on the battlefield as part of a larger meal. I made some recently using letter shaped mochi, komoboko and spinach in dashi…. it was amazing! If anyone who reads this has kids… try feeding them this! It’s a great take on alphabet soup that’s a zillion ways more nutritious!
