A cute update: I just got off the phone with Orlando Kuan who is the general manager of Eastern Bakery. He asked how I had found him and I told him I Googled for “Eastern Bakery”, he sounded really pleased because he had just asked his son to set up the website for him last week and already they have received many calls. Heehee…. I’ve been telling my homeschooling friends who like mooncakes about their store too. Do call him, he is such a nice man! And even offered to send me the mooncakes today, because I thought I’d pay by phone/credit card, and unfortunately they don’t take credit cards yet. I am putting a check in the mail right this minute though.

Oh yeah, and don’t try to order pineapple mooncakes (which I did, because I had one last year that was sooooo good), and he said they don’t make those — NOT TRADITIONAL. That’s right, Mr. Kuan, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

We LOVE the Eastern Bakery. They have the freshest and best mooncakes. They said it is because they make the filling fresh, they do not import the filling. We used to live in the Bay Area and took our sons to the Eastern Bakery since they were small. We moved back to the Midwest but we still call and order mooncakes sometimes. Our sons still love mooncakes and the history behind them is wonderful. A man at Eastern Bakery that we talked to once, said “You send the check, we send the mooncakes. We trust each other.” You can bet I mailed the check right away. I wouldn’t want to be the one to not support that honest way of doing business. Our favorite is Lotus No Yolk!
