Lasang Pinoy 1st Anniversary: Definitive Pinoy, The Round-Up

by Stef on September 7th, 2006

I’m working on the round-up, guys, but also packing and cooking for a 4-day trip. So I’m still editing this post, but didn’t want to keep everyone waiting.

Thanks so much to everyone for joining us for LP 1st Anniversary! Here’s to another exciting year ahead!

Lani offers us two dishes: sinigang na baka sa bayabas and inihaw na bangus. If you don’t read Tagalog on a daily basis, this post will give you a new appreciation of our language.

Ces’ Caldereta, with Coconut Milk! — definitive Pinoy, but definitely not your everyday Caldereta!

Mita reminds us of every Pinoy’s favorite chocolate: Choc-Nut!

Iska brings us the aroma of — what else — our nation’s pride, Bagoong Alamang!

How timely that we just celebrated LP 1st anniversary and here comes Buwan ng Wika. I had no idea. Anne regals us with her wonderful ginataang kalabasa at sitaw (hey, I just cooked this a week ago!), truly Filipino, and yes — even her post is in Filipino. What a treat!

I experienced a bit of nostalgia reading JMom’s post on her lola’s kamote salad — it’s simple dishes like this that make me recall my grandparents and their ways of preparing good food.

Marketmanila joins us with a beginning list of “The Filipino Pantry”. He’s right! Without these very basic items, Filipino cooking just wouldn’t be what it is. These things are what puts “Pinoy” into the dishes that we prepare. If you want to put together your own Filipino pantry, you need this list when you go shopping.

Mike of Lafang tempts us with his delicious and decidedly Ilocano dish pinakbet.

And my own entry is — no surprise here, huh — in draft mode. Coming up!

[…] Choosing a dish that is definitive Pinoy for LP’s 1st year anniversary (hosted by Stef) is quite tough that it took me this long to come up with an entry not to mention a busy month packed with traveling and deadlines, and transferring our websites to a new hosting site. (Yeah this blog has a new domain name, a gift!) I thought about dishes I’ve already blogged about – adobo, siningang, sinaing na tulingan, and few more iconic regional dishes until I thought about the lowly bagoong alamang. […]
