Japanese Festival food
It is officially Matsuri (festival) season in Japan now. The rainy season is almost over and on the weekends, the air is booming with the fireworks that signal a matsuri.
The sights, sounds and smells of a Japanese Matsuri are just great. The familiar music, the traditional food and the timeless sight of kids having a ball, is a sort of tonic to most Japanese people. There context is so important to a Japanese person, that I don`t expect to understand it fully myself. All that I really understand is what I hear, smell and taste. But that is good enough.
let me say just three things to wet your appetite:
Okonomiyaki (sort of like a Japanese pancake)
Yaki soba (BBQ noodles)
tako yaki (Octopus balls)
This weekend will be my first Matsuri for the season and so I hope to see, smell and taste some things to write about straight after. I am very excited. Japanese junk-food is the best.
