Honey herbal jelly

I found this little gem at a local grocery store last week.  Chinese honey, herbal jelly.  I expected it to be a desert, but it was actually a drink.  Brown liquid that tasted like brown sugar and clumps of jelly that were impossible to get out of the can.

I am guessing that it is supposed to be good for my health and I definitely didn’t feel any worse after it.  This weekend is the Tokyo marathon, so I’ll put my new found vigour to the test.

According to the Chinese, this drink has a “cooling” effect. It’s just another sugary drink which is thirst-quenching. Yes, the jelly bits are hard to get at; try using a straw. I’d like to think of this as the predecessor of “bubble tea” but I’m sure I’m wrong.
