Dolls day sweets
The 3rd of March this year is Dolls day in Japan. This is a special celebration for little girls. The day is symbolised by traditional marriage doll displays, pink food and in fact anything pink imaginable. One standard thing is called Hina Arare which is what you see in the photo. They are like miniature sweet sembe in a range of pastel colours. Mostly sugar and air, they appeal to a little girl’s sense of beauty and cuteness and even tough little girls like my daughter can’t resist them.
