Crossing the Rice
Do you “bless” the rice with your spoon or other utensil by making a cross on it before serving? I’m thinking this is a uniquely Filipino custom, or maybe even just our family’s custom. I wonder how many other Filipino families practice this. And most Asian festivals associated with rice celebrate the harvest of the grain, but I’ve also been wondering how many of these celebrations have a Christ-centered focus, if any. Perhaps some of you readers can educate me?

My mom does this all the time. And now that I’m moved out I usually do this, not for religious reason but because I like serving rice in quarters.
