Confession Time: I have a China Fetish.
Okay, okay, I admit it. I have a China fetish. Not China the country. Tableware! I can go shopping and pass by all the women’s apparel and cosmetics stores without feeling like I missed anything, but please oh please, don’t make me leave without letting me sneak a peek at the china and tableware stores. I am such a sucker for those things and can rarely get out of even places like Wal-mart and Target without some geometric plate in tow. They are just so lovely and clean looking, with those straight lines and, I imagine, hand-painted and hand-formed curves (yes, even though the ones that are mass-produced have some quirky appeal for me). And the colors and simple designs — so soothing, even if I’m not one of those minimalist types and my house doesn’t exactly whisper “zen”. Laugh if you want, but when I get into one of my moods Asian food just doesn’t taste Asian enough unless it’s served from an Asian platter or bowl. Last night I found this store — Korin — a lot of their items are quite expensive, especially those rice buckets; the craftsmanship is just so impressive! I wish I could find some artisans in the area so I could learn how to make these myself….but perhaps I could at least get a few sauce dishes and soup bowls… [sigh]
