Chinese Food for Christmas
NY residents/visitors: if you won’t cook / can’t cook for Christmas, (or perhaps are Jewish), Paul Lukas of The New York Sun has several ideas for you. He offers a list of restaurants, along with a brief review of those omnipresent dishes such as Egg Foo Young, Pupu Platter and Chop Suey.
I have often wondered why our Jewish friends love Chinese food so much. I think I may have mentioned before about my hubby’s dear old Jewish landlady, who would sneak a container of Mu Shu Pork into the house when her sister (who is stricter than her about keeping kosher) isn’t looking. We used to visit her every Christmas and we would either go out to lunch at one of her favorite Chinese restaurants, or she’ll have us over at her house for some fresh fruit and chocolate. She was quite the authority on Hot and Sour soup and knew the best spots in town to get a good bowlful. Now that we don’t see her I often think of her at Christmastime and wonder if she’s secretly having a bite of jiaozi.
