Lamb and tofu stir fry

Here is a quick lamb, tofu and vegetable stir fry.  All ingredients went in at the same time with some sake and mirin.  The vegetables are long onion, spinach and mushroom. All served on rice.

Lamb, Konyaku and tofu

Yesterday I found some nice, finely sliced, New Zealand lamb, so I cooked this up in celebration.
A big handful of sliced lamb along with about the same amount of shredded konyaku (rinsed and boiled for a couple of minutes) cooked over medium heat with a little oil until half cooked.
Then I add a cake of […]

Mushrooms and tofu

This is an invention of mine (or at least I think I invented it, but you can never really prove that sort of thing) and I need a hand naming it.
Here is the basic concept, very simple.  I saute three types of mushroom with some naga negi (long onion) and then add the tiniest dribble of […]

Maaboo Tofu

Japanese supermarkets are loaded with easy cooking meals.  There always seems to be at least half an aisle of boxes and sachets of mysterious looking mixes, which obviously form the base of a dinner.  Most of these packets are a complete mystery to me.  I can’t work out what is in the box, what I […]

In the ’70’s, my parent’s go-to place for “fast food” (it wasn’t exactly […]

The 4-Ingredient Lunch, #2

Lunch #2. Cubed tofu — deep-fry (the 4th ingredient would be the oil), pan-fry, bake or grill. Toss with store-bought chili sauce and oyster sauce. Really quick and really kid-friendly. Easy on the pocket too. There’s always a scramble for seconds, so you may need 2 blocks of tofu if […]
