This dish takes much less time than the rice does, so start the rice cooking early. Stir fry some thin sliced pork briefly with onions and mushrooms. When it is almost done, drop in some green vegetables ( I used spinach) then serve it up on the just cooked rice. Basically all you have there […]

If you read yesterday’s post you will know what we ate last night. What I failed to mention was that we had left overs. Left overs are cool sometimes but other times they are just boring. One way that I try to disguise them is to change the format.
In this case from a loose stir […]

This dinner came about as a serious desire not to go out in the rain to buy more food. Instead I put all of my energy into combining the ingredients that we had in the fridge into something meaningful. It looks a bit weird but I am proud of the flavour. It went a little […]

Check this out for easy.
Stir fry minced beef with some grated ginger and a splash of sake. Drop in cubed firm tofu, mushrooms, green vegetables and whatever else you have and serve it up on rice. A five minute dinner that tastes like it took all day.

My 2 year old daughter got the obento of her dreams last week. Imagine a cute little beautifully presented lunch in a hard plastic reusable Hello Kitty. She was over the moon. In the end she ate hardly any of it, but that is what being 2 is all about. But she did love the box and […]

I took a holiday that involved a shinkansen bullet train journey last week. On the platform I grabbed the nicest looking obento to eat on the way. By chance I stumbled on a self heating beef obento.
The deal is, you pull a string that is sticking out of the cardboard box and after 7 minutes […]
