Bread size
Is it just Japan that does this? Commercial bread - predominantly white and cake like - is sold in what I would call half loaf sizes. Each loaf is the same size but you buy either 8,6, 5 or 4 slice versions. The maths isn’t remarkable but you can imagine that a loaf cut into 8 slices yields slices half as thick as a loaf cut into 4. Also in the picture you can see the top slice is off a non-standard big loaf from a wholesaler cut into micro thin slices, which are next to useless.
