Horn Chocolate
What to call a new chocolate that is moulded into a U-shaped piece of wafer?
Horn of course!
That is if you have used up all of the more rational names on other novel chocolate products

This dish might well be called clean the fridge because I can’t think of any more cultured name.
Last night’s left over spaghetti fried with naga negi and shimeji mushrooms. On top is cut up tofu, some grilled salmon and tomato. Although it tastes great and did a good job of sorting out a few bits and […]
My favourite chips in Japan - Wasa Beef flavoured. Think of mild beef combined with wasabi and salt and you can probably imagine what they taste like. Unfortunately, after pestering me to try them, my 3 year old daughter was shocked by the flavour and told me that she would like them when she grew […]
I had a maddenning desire for curry last night but not the ingredients. Aftert a little hunting around I found a bag of desicated coconut, some potatoes, some frozen minced beef and the end of a jar of garam masala. The only other vegetables I could find were onion, garlic and frozen peas. I really have […]
Sapporo have just released a new premium beer (not like Australian premium beers which are often just low alcohol beers). They’ve called it Edelpils which I guess is supposed to make us look like a European Pilsener beer. The can tells me that Edelpils is a premium beer with noble taste brewed from 100% fine […]
This had great promise. As I cooked the brown rice, I dreamed of steaming piles of goodness. As I carefully prepared the squid, tomatoes, spinach and onions, I thought I was creating something extra-ordinary. As I carefully cooked it all with olive oil and red wine, I was already congratulating myself. But as I was […]
Today I selected a tasty morsel from my supermarket’s fried food department. Ika ( I am guessing that it is cuttlefish rather than calamari) deep fried and really good. The smell was sort of like Thailand and the taste was like heaven. Bundled up with lettuce, red onion and tomato and carrot it was worth […]
What could be faster than pulling some seafood out of the water, slicing it up and eating? Walking 200m to the shop and buying sashimi already sliced. This set included octopus, calamari, scallop and fish. My favourite? Scallop by a long way, it is just so good uncooked.
I’m really scraping the bottom of the barrel now. On top of that otherwise respectable rice is a thing that Japanese people call a hamburger. Barely recognisable, oval shaped and covered in what they call a demiglase sauce. Some are quite nice, others (this one included) are just an easy way to eat. I was […]
Try ordering this from subway. All sorts of salad ingredients, some sliced up vinegar-ed octopus doused with kewpie mayonnaise. Not exactly traditional anything but well worth the 2 minutes it takes to prepare.
